LACMA

For yet another one of our weddings on the #weddingtour2014 we found ourselves in LA and made a long weekend/ mini-vacay out of the trip. (since we all know I will use any excuse to be on the Best Coast as much as possible). We had the entire day after the wedding to hang out before heading to another epic dinner at Ink., our favorite restaurant. After a "rejuvenation breakfast" with some other friends who had been at the wedding, we decided to head to The Getty, but upon arriving, the line to park was barely moving and we didn't want to waste our day sitting in the car. A quick brainstorm and google search later...we decided to head over to LACMA. Parking was a breeze and in probably half the time it would have taken to finally get into the Getty, we were parked, had tickets and had planned our route through the multiple buildings to try to see the exhibits that interested us most. The architecture alone was amazing, and the weather was nothing short of stunning.

One of our finally areas that we were exploring lead us to a room with a HUGE installation that looked a lot like an adult erector set. It was a cityscape with a complex track for thousands of little cars to zip along. We quickly realized that it was actually motorized and we had come in just in time to have them turn the motors on so we could see all the moving parts.

The piece is Metropolis II by Chris Burden and it was entirely worth the trip to LACMA all on its own!

And to see it in action...some video footage

99 Problems and the Chicken Isn't One of Them

Everyone meet Jay-Z:

He is MY metal chicken. And yes those are forks that are making his wings. I adore each little yellow toe that he had.

I am thinking about photographing him sitting outside on people's doormats. But then I would be worried that he would get chickennaped. And we don't want that.

Jay-Z is the mini boyfriend of Beyonce. He traveled many miles to come live with me and we already have bonded as he sits right by my bed so I wake up to that darling little beak of his.

I know...you love him too.

He's kind of awesome.

I am about to be gone for awhile. Just a little while I say. But I will be back with tale galore and will be excited to catch up in the blog world! In the meantime Jay-Z will be my watchchicken and will hold down the fort around here.

Gimmie Gimmie

Miss. B Smith over at MansionMogul sent me a link for this FAB-U-LOUS necklace made by truche:

I can't say how much I love love love love love love love love love this necklace! Truche will place the heart over whatever city you want too which makes it even more special!

Truche has a great store on etsy and I suggest you go check out her other states that she makes (if I had the money I would order one of Washington and Idaho!) and she also will do anything on request if she hasn't already made it! Her non-state/country pieces are beautiful as well and would make great gifts for friends and family!

As for me I am putting this gem (nice Idaho pun huh?) on my wishlist and am going to start thinking of an occasion that I can treat myself to it! Nothing like being able to wear something to show where my heart is!!

de young

So one of the highlights of my trip to San Francisco (again, not exactly a sigh-seeing trip) was going to the de young art museum in the Golden Gate Park. My sister wanted to see it, and she had told me it was an architecturally unique building. Generally most things she finds cool, I do too, we are in-sync like that. But the de young is astonishing. Unfortunately it wasn't a sunny day, so we couldn't see the true beauty of the cooper siding. But it is still just an amazing building. It is so massive, looking back at my photos there is absolutely no way to capture the size and scale of the building in a photo.

In addition to the amazing building, we got to see some pretty amazing exhibits. Andy Warhol was a huge exhibit. Two things of particular interest. 1) His involvement in the dance world. He had a lot to do with Martha Graham and many other contemporary and modern choreographers. 2) He worked with Kenny Scharf. One of my childhood friends is Kenny's niece. His artwork used to be all over her house, which I always thought was strange as a child, but now I can see where the influence came from.

We also got to see an Yves St. Laurent exhibit, which was beyond fabulous. They had at least 100 of his couture outfits. They were so extravagant. Some were so timeless I know that I would be in love with it many many years from now.

After we did these two fabulous displays. We went up in the observation tower. While there wasn't much to see due to the fog and rain, you do get a great view of the building and a sense of how massive it is.

Went went through the modern art section lastly and there was one room that housed some of the best pieces of art in the whole museum.

One piece was very moving and also so beautiful. It was pieces of charred wood that had come from a African American Baptist church that had been burned by an arsonist. Hundreds of these pieces just floated in air, hanging from the ceiling.

Another piece was covered in junk...literally junk and then coated in glue and plaster. If you stood close enough to it you could smell its stink.

Then there was what I refer to as "The Tiffany's Art", which was only because it is very shiny and silver.

Outside there were some very amazing pieces of art as well. Nothing beats a giant safety pin....

There was also a large rock that had been covered in silver, pounded, and then polished...if only it had been sunny!
