Dear Everyone Who Walks Like they a Stampeding Animal,
Why are we walking so damn fast? The other evening I went to Target to pick up some essentials, was walking back and almost got trampled like Mufasa in the gorge. You all were walking so freaking fast, I practically had to trot to not get my heels run over by the chick rolling her suitcase down the street.
Granted I know...you've been at the office allll day and you want to get home so you can watch the SOTU or Dance Moms, and you all have much longer legs (especially those of you wearing those power heels that add 4 inches to your height). So I get it...you are on a mission. I am too. But the difference between stampeding down the sidewalk vs. a gentle stroll probably is only saving you 3-4 extra minutes each evening. Not to mention, don't you ever just want to enjoy the walk?
I was enjoying my walk and outing to Target. Granted, I don't get out much...as we all well know, but when I do it usually is for enjoyment, exercise and because even I (the ultimate homebody) gets stir crazy. So I want to enjoy my time away from "my office"; even if it is just a trivial trip to Target or the post office.
I just don't understand where we are all trying to go so dang fast? No one has enough time in the day, so why fight it? Just enjoy your walk. Oh maybe smile at someone too...revolutionary concept, I know.
Oh wait....sorry. I forgot.
You are just so important of course you are going to walk like a race horse trying to win the Kentucky Derby.
Unkindly,
Andrea

Just Do Better Than Yesterday
This is the time of the year were resolutions, annual goals, performance evaluations, and pacts with friends are made to gear up for the start of a new year. Frankly, I find it a bit too overwhelming. With the things I have to do for work- objective setting and performance evaluations- the idea of setting more things for me to be working on just feels so...daunting.

Flattery
I had a lunch/afternoon date with one of my nearest and dearest, Ashley, this weekend while our boys, men, boyfriends were gone for the weekend to celebrate Ashley's finance's bachelor party. We met up and it was pouring rain so we picked our brunch spot on where we could find parking close to a front door and the posted up at a table for 3.5 hours (we clearly had a TON to catch up on).
We rehashed the holiday season, the crazy new reality my family has going on, how men are idiots, work, how our lives could use assistants, and how we are really comfortable drinking by ourselves-- the typical girl brunch topics.
After occupying our table for a solid 3-4 hours, we finally decided to move and free up the table when we realized we were the only people and had outlasted the brunch AND lunch crowd.
Ashley left me alone for a few minutes to head to the restroom and I was left bundling up putting my coat and my scarf to have one of the waiter say "Please don't take this the wrong way, but you are really beautiful". I blushed way deeper than any shade of blush I had on. He was truly sincere about the comment and all I could muster was a "thank you". While I was my typically uncomfortable-self; it was incredibly flattering.

New Make-up Finds
As we know...I don't get dress much, let alone put on make-up (poor BF...he really got the shit end of the deal with my work from home gig!), but now that I use a lot less make-up, I feel a bit better about splurging on my make-up and skincare. I've found some items I am really loving right now that I thought I would share. I am still on the quest for the best wrinkle diminishing moisturizer, and always look for good face cleansers (so please comment with your recommendations) these are some things I would pass along to any of my friends!

That Time I Went out In Public With a Hole in My Pants
I don't get dressed a lot. My work wardrobe typically consists of PJs, sweats and yoga pants. (see: Working from Home) Getting dressed is reserved for nights out, weekends, and....well that is about it. There just isn't a lot of "effort" during the week days, so if I do venture out of the apartment it is a BIG deal for me to put on bottoms have a button and zipped.
It was a loooonnnggg week this past week. Insane project load. Performance reviews. A special project I am on. AND evaluating how to re-certify for my PHR. Come Friday I was barely hanging in there to make it to 6pm. With a afternoon free of meetings; I wanted to change of my scenery since I don't get out much and headed to our local coffee shop to blaze through some of the items standing between me and the weekend.

The New Reality
It can all change so fast. In the blink of an eye. Each day is a blessing.
These phrases have been fused to my thoughts these past few weeks as they have all taken new meaning due to a startling incident.
Right before Christmas, my mom had gone out to our garage, climbed the pull down ladder into the attic, and somehow managed to step off of the reinforced area that is safe to walk on, and fell to the concrete floor below. I was home, visiting for the holidays working downstairs in my childhood bedroom. Alerted by the dog that something was going on; I went out to the garage to find the neighborhood UPS driver utilizing his military training to keep my mom out of shock and as comfortable as possible until the ambulance arrived.
